How to set up SBC Yahoo DSL with out
the yellow CD
SBC DSL FAQ:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/sbc
To setup an SBC DSL PPPoE account manually: (this can be done
on the Mac or PC).
1. Using a web browser, connect to the ethernet router configuration
web page with something like: http://192.168.1.1 or whatever IP
address the instructions say to use. 2. Select: PPPeE
for the WAN connection type.
3. Username: sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net Password: sbcyahooreg These
will change after you have setup your account. Save settings.
4. Connect to: < https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net/ >https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net/
Note the "https", not "http". You should get
the account setup page.
5. Follow the instructions and go through the ordeal process.
It asks quite a few questions that are gross violations of privacy,
so be careful what you answer. Only the first part (setting up
the user name and password) has to answered totally honestly.
6. At one point in the ordeal process, it will ask you for a user
name and password. Pick something simple as this will be user
email address. WRITE IT DOWN NOW! It will ask if you want to "upgrade"
to a Yahoo mailbox and add some extra features. Answer no. It
will also ask if you want extra features. Most are "trials"
that will eventually cost extra money. Answer none. At one point,
it will ask if you want to "merge" your Yahoo email
address with the SBCglobal.net address. Answer no. Don't be surprised
if the web browser hangs before the end of the signup ceremony.
I've had it happen a few times. As long as you get past the login/passwd
creation part, it should work just fine.
7. When done with the signup ordeal, connect back to the router
configuration pages with: http://192.168.1.1 (or whatever the
docs say to use) and change the user name and password to whatever
you setup during the registration ordeal process. Save the setup.
8. You're done. You may need to go to the "status" page
and reconnect. Try browsing your favorite web sites.
9. If you're gonna do Echolink, there are some settings that need
to be dealt with.
